Press Release Body: Fl, USA, May 27,2008...........High blood pressure
(hypertension) can go undetected for years. It may not present itself, but if
undetected for a long time, it can have serious consequences. If blood pressure
remains high for a long period, it can cause heart disease or a stroke. A reasonably
healthy diet and lifestyle can help to prevent hypertension. It may even help reduce
blood pressure once hypertension is diagnosed. Prevention is better than cure so
take a few simple steps to help to prevent your blood pressure becoming dangerously
high.

Overweight? - Carrying too much excess weight can contribute towards high blood
pressure. The heart is having to work much harder pumping the blood around the body.
Everything is going to be more of an exertion when overweight. Try not to become too
overweight if at all possible. If you are already overweight, try to lose weight to
within normal limits. You can do this by exercising more and eating less or a more
healthy diet. If you are unsure of what to eat, join a diet club where you will also
receive support. You will be given advice on what the best things to eat are and you
will be more motivated if not attempting to diet on your own.

Exercise - Exercise is a good way of preventing or reducing high blood pressure. If
you don`t do any exercise, start gradually. Walking is even considered good
exercise. You could start by walking to the shop instead of driving. Walk each day
for your paper. Gradually increase the distance that you walk or the amount of
exercise that you do. People who have had heart attacks or coronary problems are
often advised to walk each day, every day as this can prevent relapse. Don`t
suddenly join a gym and frantically exercise if you are not used to it. This could
cause more harm than good, increase gradually.

Stress - If you find work or life in general stressful, you may be at risk of
developing high blood pressure. Make time for yourself each day and relax. You may
find it beneficial to join a yoga class or meditation class. If you don`t have time
or the desire, make sure you do some breathing exercises at home if you are feeling
stressed.

Diet - If you are not overweight, you don`t need to go on a slimming diet. However,
it is good for everyone to be aware of their diet. Try to eat a healthy diet, eat
plenty of fruit and vegetables. Don`t eat too much `unhealthy` food. This doesn`t
mean that you can`t eat something that you fancy every now and again. As long as
your main diet is healthy, you can treat yourself occasionally.

Salt - If you like salt on your food, it is advisable to cut down. Salt can cause
high blood pressure. It is the hidden salts that can be a danger. There is salt in
processed food. The quantity will be shown on the box or tin. Ready meals are high
in salt and additives so too many of these are not conducive to a healthy diet. Try
not to add salt to cooking or have it on every meal. There are alternatives to salt
available which may be an option. If you still want to use salt, try hard to reduce
your intake. The smaller the intake the smaller the risk.

Alcohol - Too much alcohol can cause high blood pressure. Anything in moderation is
alright so the occasional drink is not a problem. Drinking every night is not a good
idea, especially not large amounts. If you do drink every night, try to cut down.
You will need to cut down gradually. If you are a serious drinker, you may even
require medical help in the form of tablets to reduce the withdrawal symptoms. It
may even be better to give up completely to minimise the lure when having the
occasional tipple.

Once you have modified your lifestyle if necessary, the risk of high blood pressure
should be lessened. Stick to a healthy diet with some treats. Take some exercise,
don`t be completely sedentary. Athletes usually have really good blood pressures so
lots of exercise is good, but some is better than none. Be careful to do everything
in moderation that may be harmful like drinking alcohol and eating salt. You don`t
have to change your life completely, but be sensible. If you do have a problem with
high blood pressure, make sure that you are monitored regularly by your doctor.
